Douglas Knehans: To the Stars
World Premier of a new commission by Anne Harley of Scripps College to texts of the first recorded poet in human history, Enheduanna. Enheduanna was the entu (high) priestess of the moon god Nanna (Sīn) in the Sumerian city-state of Ur. The piece uses texts taken from the cuneiform ancient Sumerian in creating a new work for two sopranos, violin, bass clarinet, hand percussion and electronics.
