Douwe Eisenga / Simeon ten Holt
In the transition from dusk to darkness, pianist/composer Bastiaan Brink will play the piano recital ‘From Dusk till Dark – Reduced Musical Landscapes’ for five evenings.
The concert expresses the various stages of suffering and rebirth and is characterised by simplicity and tranquillity.
From the primal tones of Pärt to the heartbeat of life in Ravel, from the searching movements in the work of Eisenga, Debussy and Ten Holt to the melancholic sounds of Beethoven, from a descent into darkness in Ustvolskaya to the return to the light in Bach.
During the recital, the audience sits in a special, oval arrangement, giving every visitor an unobstructed view of the grand piano and the dynamic spectacle of twilight and blue tones behind the high church windows.
Brink concludes with a new composition, played in darkness, lit only by candles.
This concert has been specially composed for the spatial acoustics of the Bergkerk and is therefore an ode to both the grandeur and the intimacy of this location.
