Fania Chapiro & Julius Hijman
The Leiden Salon is programming four concerts centered around music by composers in the Netherlands who were persecuted during the Second World War. The programs are inspired by the ties that the presented composers had with the Netherlands, the US, Hungary and Germany.
To put together the program, the Leiden Salon collaborated with flautist Eleonore Pameijer, who founded the Leo Smit Foundation in 1996 with pianist Frans van Ruth. The foundation is named after the Jewish composer Leo Smit who was murdered in 1943 in Sobibor.
