Gerard Beljon / Bart Spaan / Jacob ter Veldhuis

Six piano world premieres from our home country. Once again Ralph van Raat surpasses himself. As a pianist, Van Raat works tirelessly for contemporary music from home and abroad. From unheard masterpieces to brand new piano works written especially for him. The list of composers with whom Van Raat has now collaborated is breathtaking: Tan Dun, John Adams, Gavin Bryars, Vladimir Martynov, Arvo Pärt and Louis Andriessen.

Now he lends his pianistic superpowers to brand new piano repertoire from his own soil. Five of the six works that had their world premiere earlier this year were even written especially for Van Raat. Together, the six works form a beautiful sample of Dutch composition art in 2024.

For example, Robin de Raaff writes new work for Van Raat, who previously performed his two piano concertos. Composers such as Gerard Beljon, Bart Spaan, Anne-Maartje Lemereis and Jacob ter Veldhuis seek direct communication with the audience with their work, while Peter Adriaansz has an investigative attitude. As usual, stage animal Ralph van Raat will enthusiastically explain all premieres with a few words.
