Gerard Beljon: Planctus Cygni I

Gerard Beljon: Planctus Cygni I

In Gishera (գիշեր: night), Chamber Choir NEXT travels with doedoek and kaval player Raphaela Danksagmüller through a musical night with music from Armenia and the Netherlands. The mysterious sounds of the traditional cloth carry through a moonlit landscape of misty mountains and monasteries on azure lakes. The music in the program is inspired by the rich, sometimes tragic history of this special country, which once stretched from the Mediterranean to the Caspian Sea. For example, parts from Ars Poetica, a monumental choral work by the Armenian composer Tigran Mansurian, alternate with works for choir, doedoek and kaval. In addition to arrangements of traditional Armenian folk music, works composed by Froukje Verhagen and Gerard Beljon will also be performed. Chamber choir NEXT introduces you to new works and sound images that are not often heard in the Dutch music world.
