Guus Janssen / Calliope Tsoupaki
John Cage’s Dream is a piece that almost puts you in a state of complete tranquility, but in which small events have major consequences and continue to demand attention.
When I was 27 by Calliope Tsoupaki for double bass and viola – for which the composer had even designed a separate lighting plan for the two players – a subtle game is played with alternating melodies and virtuoso rhythms.
14 variations on a silent theme is a fresh work for piano in which composer Guus Janssen plays an extremely refined game with the silent theme that, in the end, sheds a sparkling light on the preceding in all its simplicity.
