Hendrik Andriessen: Ricercare
On Friday evening, November 17, 2023, Arnhem Sinfonietta will give a concert in Musis, together with cellist Inge Grevink. The program includes the well-known cello concerto by Antonin Dvorák and the second symphony by Ludwig van Beethoven.
The concert starts with a short orchestral work by Hendrik Andriessen, the father of Louis Andriessen, who made an international name for himself with avant-garde music. The music of Hendrik Andriessen has become much less known. He wrote beautiful music in the mid-twentieth century, which was not very innovative and is reminiscent of music from an earlier period. One of his best-known works is ‘Ricercare’ for symphony orchestra, a composition that can be interpreted as a tribute to Johann Sebastian Bach. Arnhem Sinfonietta opens the concert on November 17 with this short but monumental piece.
Then cellist Inge Grevink joins the orchestra. She is first deputy leader of the cellists of Phion (formerly Het Gelders Orkest). Together with Arnhem Sinfonietta she will perform Antonin Dvorák’s cello concerto. The concert ends with Ludwig van Beethoven’s second symphony.
