Hendrik Andriessen: Variaties en fuga op een thema van Johann Kuhnau
On Saturday 11 March at 8.15 pm and Sunday 12 March at 3.30 pm String Orchestra de Haagse Beek will perform a program full of wonderful music by Dutch composers. The program includes “Concerto Armonico nr. 5” by Unico van Wassenaer (1692-1766); the “Allegro for four string quartets” by Johannes van Bree (1801-1857) in an arrangement for string orchestra; the well-known “Variations and fugue on a theme by Johann Kuhnau” by Hendrik Andriessen (1892-1981) and “The Waves” by Jacob ter Veldhuis (1951).
The lyric soprano Murni Suwetja sings four songs on texts by Thomas à Kempis. This medieval monk was a source of inspiration for many centuries. His texts have inspired the composer Hendrik Andriessen to write these songs, adapted for soprano and string orchestra by Marien van Staalen
