Hendrik Andriessen: Variations and fugue on a theme by Johann Kuhnau
This May, the Ricciotti Ensemble takes to the road with New Horizon, a spring tour dedicated to those forced to leave their homes in search of freedom.
The heart of this program is the masterful Variations and Fugue on a Theme by Johann Kuhnau (1935) by the renowned Dutch composer Hendrik Andriessen. Written for string orchestra, this centerpiece showcases Andriessen’s signature elegance and melodic depth, offering a moment of profound reflection amidst the tour’s diverse repertoire.
The 43-piece symphonic orchestra of energetic young musicians will perform this Dutch classic alongside works by Kurt Weill and Gloria Estefan, as well as a brand-new commissioned piece by soloist Nawras Altaky (vocals and oud).
From May 4th to 7th, the Ricciotti Ensemble brings Andriessen’s legacy and the spirit of a “New Horizon” to life in the most unexpected places.
