Hendrik Andriessen / Willem van Otterloo / Jan van Gilse / Jeff Hamburg
Old Dutch Holidays stands for an evening of old Dutch nostalgia. With a visual presentation of Dutch old masters such as Melchior d’Hondecoeter, Frans Hals and Rembrandt, the passionate string orchestra Ciconia Consort, conducted by Dick van Gasteren, plays a special Painting Exhibition by Mussorgsky. With a virtual Eleven Cities Tour, the promenades between the paintings, the old castle, the Polish ox cart and the gate of Kiev are covered by skating on beautiful winter scenes by Hendrick Avercamp.
As an authentic Dutch tradition, the Sinterklaas celebration will not be missed this wonderful evening. Did you know that ‘Daar wordt aan de deur geklopt’ was originally a song from the classical period? Hummel wrote his Variations for orchestra on this popular melody. The sounds of Willem van Otterloo and Hendrik Andriessen complete the real Dutch Christmas feeling.
Listen: “the love with which the Ciconia’s perform the pieces is heartwarming.”
Klassieke Zaken: “a dazzling ensemble, meticulously cared for down to the last detail.”
