Idin Samimi Mofakham: Nafir – for contrabass quartet, orchestra & electronics

Nafir is commonly used in classical Persian poetry and Prose, especially in Iran’s 10th to 13th-century literature. This noun’s meaning depends on the context and has many definitions, from wailing and screaming to lamentation and moaning.

In my composition, I have treated the contrabass quartet as a complex unified organism versus the orchestral force that serves to confront my inner wail, roar, and lamentation against the political autocracy and unjustness surrounding the lives in every corner of our world.
