Jacob ter Veldhuis (arranged by Mark Rogers): Tallahatchie Concerto

The Wind Orchestra of Milan’s Conservatory “Giuseppe Verdi” will perform the Italian première of this amazing work, conducted by Andrea Gasperin and with Manuel Teles on alto sax, in the prestigious Sala Verdi of the Conservatory. Tallahatchie Concerto will be performed along works of Alfred Reed, Jan van der Roost and Paul Hindemith.

JacobTV (Jacob ter Veldhuis, Westerlee, 1951) started his musical career as a rock musician. At the Conservatory of Groningen he studied composition with Willem Frederik Bon and electronic music with Luctor Ponse. When graduating in 1980, he was awarded the Prize for Composition. In the following years he attracted attention with two symphonies and works such as Insonnia, Drei Stille Lieder and Diverso il Tempo. Besides, he earned a living by writing film scores and music for the clown of Circus Krone. In 1984, he became a full-time composer and started a long search for a voice of his own.

Aftab Darvishi: Only Violets Remain

The Phion Orchestra opens the season under the baton of chief conductor Alexei Ogrintchouk with two masterpieces from the classical repertoire. This year, Iranian composer Aftab Darvishi is composer in residence at Phion. Her performance is “Only Violets Remain,” a work commissioned by the orchestra several years ago.
