Jacob ter Veldhuis: Whats is wrong with you?

For Insomnio, the sound of birds has been a source of inspiration for years for programs that result in surprising concerts with new and existing works every time. They present these concerts under the title ‘God’s own musicians’, freely based on the statement by Olivier Messiaen.

In God’s own musicians #3, the sounds of birds not only enrich the complex contemporary music, they also contribute to the accessibility of a genre that is often experienced as unruly. In this sense, the birds and the bird sounds in the program are both an inspiration for composers Jonathan Harvey and Seung-Won Oh and a guide for the audience.

Insomnio complements the program with a new work by Jacob ter Veldhuis and juxtaposes with his work sounds of the craziest bird — the human being.

Together, the three compositions form an intriguing palette around the connection between people, between people and their environment and between people and themselves.
