Jan van Gilse: Der Kreis des Lebens
This concert features music by Jan van Gilse, one of the most important Dutch composers and conductors after 1900. Musicologist Eduard Reeser praised his much-appreciated ‘inspired musicality and technical mastery’ and called him a ‘born composer’. His cantata Der Kreis des Lebens (1929) on a text by Rainer Maria Rilke, composed in Berlin, can be heard here. Next to it is the perfect beauty of Franz Schubert’s ‘Unfinished Song’.
