Jelger Blanken: Reflections no.1 for piano

Autumn edition 2024, Schiermonnikoog Festival

October 8, Sint-Egbertuskapel (“RK-Kapel”)

15:30-16:00 (sold out already)

16:30-17:00 (still some tickets available)

The world premiere of  Reflections no.1 will take place during a solo piano recital by British pianist Craig White at the 2024 autumn edition of the Schiermonnikoog Festival. Titled “Secret Scores,” the recital features Craig performing works by various composers without a conventional printed program, leaving the audience to discover the details only after the performance concludes.

Craig White: “I would like the audience to come to this recital without too many pre-conceptions or judgements towards the music, and to also give them a chance to hear works by different composers side by side, that in a conventional recital setting would always be separated by applause. Some pieces sound quite different when put in an unusual context. I had settled on most of the music already and wanted to broaden the scope of the recital by asking Jelger to write a piece. ‘Reflections No.1’ complements and comments on the sound worlds and musical gestures of the other works, but in Jelger’s own distinctive style.
