Jesse Passenier: Levensdrift & Becoming the Colour
Gershwin meets Passenier: A Night of Orchestral Brilliance
The evening kicks off with George Gershwin’s An American in Paris, a vibrant symphonic sketch of the city’s bustling energy. From there, the spotlight shifts to the innovative sounds of Maastricht-based composer Jesse Passenier.
Experience highlights from his award-winning album Fight for Light, where jazz soloists and a symphony orchestra collide in a daring blend of structure and improvisation. In Piano Concerto No. 1 “Levensdrift”, Passenier pairs late-Romantic textures with the punchy, layered harmonies of a modern big band. The journey continues with “Becoming the Colour”, a dual concerto that explores the shimmering warmth of the vibraphone against the earthy, woody tones of the marimba. It’s a high-energy program that gives the talented musicians of the VU Orchestra the perfect stage to showcase their versatility and passion.
