Jesse Passenier: Life Cycles (Concerto for Bass Trombone and Orchestra)

In 2022, the Dutch Student Orchestra will make their 70th tour. During this 14th lustrum, they stand out because of the grand program: the commissioned composition by Jesse Passenier will be composed especially for NSO 2022 and Rommert Groenhof will perform the bass trombone solo. Just like during the first edition of the NSO in 1952, Brahms’s Academic Festouvertüre will be played. This also goes back to previous lustra, such as in 2012, when the piece was also played. After the intermission, Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s Suite ‘Sheherazade’ will be performed. This is one of Rimsky-Korsakov’s best-known plays and is based on the stories of Sheherazade in the book One Thousand and One Nights. Arjan Tien will perform this year as an internationally renowned conductor for the NSO. The overarching theme of NSO 2022 is Relive.
