Jobina Tinnemans: Seven Sisters

Seven Sisters are seven short piano pieces with a total duration of ca. 17’.

The Seven Sisters were the daughters of Pleione and Titan. We know very little about these women: we know that they were desirable, we know the names of their offspring and we know who fathered each of those children. These works are created to give each sister an identity, based not on their divinity, but on human psychology and sibling rivalry.

Berlin-based pianist Fidan Aghayeva-Edler, is performing Seven Sisters in Germany followed by concerts in the UK. Première performance will be in Berlin on Aug 31st, during the “Komponistinnen” 24h Piano Marathon:

100 composers and 300 works in 24 hours

The pianist Fidan Aghayeva-Edler plays the piano non-stop 24 hours a day: 300 works by 100 composers of classical modern and contemporary music, including 20 world premieres. The actress Mareike Hein weaves artistic creation with social discourse. She recites texts, performs, interacts with the audience, and draws live. Teresa Reiber’s direction creates an immersive sound and reflection space that reveals the immense compositional diversity of the artists portrayed.

Fictional heroines, exile, motherhood, origins and wanderlust are themes of the 24 hours of concerts. There are also excursions into nature and the world of musical forms of cycles, etudes and dance pieces. Continued in text and performance by Mareike Hein, the evening makes it possible to experience joy, inspiration and resistance in the search for one’s own artistic expression.

 Program:

Piano works by 100 female composers, with world premieres by Ana Beyron, Sarah Blair, Kristen Baum, Charlotte Botterill, Helena Canovas Pares, Marleen Dupont, Nigar Suleyman, Adrienne Inglis, Elif Karlidag, Liz Dilnot Johnson, Laura Elise Schwendinger, Jobina Tinnemans, Bethany Wakim, Amy Reich, Sarah McMahill, Ya-tzu Cheng, Kari Besharse, Allison Cameron, Olga Rayeva and Sarvenaz Safari.

Klas Torstensson: City Imprints / New Work / The Expedition

This year’s International Composer Festival in Stockholm is dedicated to Klas Torstensson.
