Jobina Tinnemans: Seven Sisters

The concert theme “Das Jahr” is based on the ongoing project #365daysofperformance and references Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel’s iconic work for solo piano. Fidan’s programme features works by brilliant women of both past and present.

All are welcome at this performance, which is set in a relaxed and intimate environment.

Fidan is appearing thanks to the kind support of Berlin’s Senate Department for Culture and Social Cohesion.

Programme

Amy Beach – Hermit Thrush at Eve, Op. 92 Nr. 1 (1921)

Anna Bon di Venezia – Piano Sonatas Op. 2 (1757): Sonata V H-Minor

Mel Bonis – Mélisande Op. 109 (1925) & Salomé (1909)

Ruth Crawford – Preludes 1 & 5 (1924)

Jobina Tinnemans – Seven Sisters (2021): Electra, Taygete, Merope

Fanny Mendelssohn (Hensel) – Das Jahr (1841): Juli (Serenade), September (Am Flusse)

Seven Sisters are seven short piano pieces by Jobina Tinnemans.

The Seven Sisters were the daughters of Pleione and Titan. We know very little about these women: we know that they were desirable, we know the names of their offspring, and we know who fathered each of those children.

These works are created to give each sister an identity, based not on their divinity but on human psychology and sibling rivalry.
