Joey Roukens by Dudok Quartet
‘Stylish, open-minded and adventurous.’ Just a few qualifications that the British newspaper The Guardian is very enthusiastic about sticking to the Dutch Dudok Quartet. For years, the string quartet has been known for its genre-bending and versatile approach. Great quartet classics stand side by side with contemporary compositions that arouse curiosity. The foursome choose music that moves, disrupts and makes an indelible impression. The repertoire ranges from Ligeti, Shostakovich and Weinberg to Mendelssohn, Mozart and Beethoven.
During November Music 2022 they will be presenting recent quartet work by Dutch composers and a modern ‘classic’. By Theo Loevendie, Dudok will play the Introduction and Dances for String Quartet, dating from 2022, while the young festival composer Joey Roukens will undoubtedly surprise with his Fourth String Quartet. By the Hungarian-Austrian composer György Ligeti, Dudok will perform one of their favorite works, the five-part Second String Quartet from 1968. Ligeti conjures up like never before with ticking mechanisms, raging expressiveness and finely meshed micropolyphony.
