Joey Roukens: Chase
Ballet would never be the same after Igor Stravinsky. With his ecstatic ballet music, the visionary Russian kicked every traditionalist in the shins. After all, in Petrushka the dancers not only balanced on the tips of their toes, but the music also balanced dangerously on the edge of tonality. Bartók also liked to flout the musical rules. In his Third Piano Concerto, sometimes sweet and sometimes rough, he seems to poke fun at classical conventions. Piano prodigy Lukáš Vondráček, winner of the Queen Elisabeth Competition in 2016, makes every string and chip of the keyboard tremble, cheer and sing. The program will start with a spectacular Chase by Dutch composer Joey Roukens.
