Joey Roukens: Symphony 1 (World Premiere)
This American-Dutch programme opens with Samuel Barber’s famous Adagio, the most-played orchestral piece on American soil. Then a highly acclaimed piano virtuoso, the Russian Daniil Trifonov, will take the stage for the Dutch premiere of the Piano Concerto by the American composer Mason Bates. He recently won a Grammy for his opera The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs. Finally, the world premiere of the First Symphony by Joey Roukens, by now a familiar composer in the AVROTROS Friday Concert series, who has often surprised musicians and audiences with highly energetic orchestral works.
