WannaSwing
Eight swings on the quay at the Muziekgebouw Amsterdam: with the interactive music installation WannaSwing you can play music while looking out over the IJ. While swinging, you control compositions written especially for WannaSwing by renowned Dutch composers such as Willem Jeths, Joey Roukens and David Dramm.
As soon as one of the swings starts moving, music plays from a speaker box above this swing. Each of the eight swings controls a different instrument (or group of instruments) of the composition. And because everyone rocks in their own way (hard or soft, more or less in sync with the rest), the composition always sounds different. WannaSwing has previously toured festivals such as Lowlands, Oerol and Over ‘t IJ, and has had a permanent place at the head of the Piet Heinkade since September 2019. The creators of the swings are theater maker Cecilia Thunissen and scenographer Jan Boiten. They looked for new ways to actively involve the audience in making music outside the walls of the theater or concert hall.
