Lance Hulme: December Night

Join us for an unforgettable event as the Wichita State University Opera Theater proudly presents the world premiere of a new opera by the noted composer Lance Hulme, with a libretto by Alicia Richards based on Willa Cather’s “Death Comes for the Archbishop.”

This compelling new work delves into the spiritual journey and struggles of a Bishop in Santa Fe, New Mexico, who finds himself amid a profound spiritual crisis. As he grapples with his faith, Sada, a Mexican slave, teaches him about the real meaning of sacrifice and kindness through her faith and generosity.

Under the direction of Alan Held, this premiere showcases the incredible talents of WSU’s students, bringing this powerful and moving story to life.
