Louis Andriessen: Memory of Roses, Dubbelspoor
It’s someone’s birthday, or you’ve got a bit of a crush on someone, or you’re angry about something, or you want to pay tribute to someone, or thank someone deeply… So, you write a little piece. Louis Andriessen’s Memory of Roses collection is full of music written for moments just like these. Tonight we hear a handful of these remarkable pieces.
Louis would have turned 86 today, and we’re celebrating that in Splendor. There will be performances by Daria van den Bercken, Gerard Bouwhuis and Heleen Hulst, with vocals by Sterre Konijn and even a small choir of friends. Aad van Nieuwkerk will speak with David Dramm, Beppie Blankert and others. Also on the programme: an evocative film about Louis’ house, ‘Keizersgrachtshuffle’, and videos about his music with David and Gerard.
Best known for his monumental works and powerful sound, the pieces tonight reveal a more intimate side of Louis. This Louis plays a virtuosic game with styles from the past and never misses the mark.
