Luc Brewaeys: Haydn ? / The Zappa Album
BREWAEYS MEETS ZAPPA
“Les extrèmes se touchent”, is sometimes said. The saying certainly applies to this concert about Luc Brewaeys, who took these words as his motto.
Ten years after Brewaeys’ death, numerous ensembles, orchestras and concert halls join forces to provide a rich cross-section of the music of one of Flanders’ most remarkable composers. Casco Phil highlights Brewaeys’ general chamber music and takes the opportunity to seek out cross-pollinations in the most mysterious directions.
Haydn by Brewaeys? takes the famous Emperor Quartet by Joseph Haydn, already on the programme, as its starting point. Gradually, the recognisable main theme becomes more and more entangled in a cloud of timbre. Brewaeys was also greatly inspired by Frank Zappa, the remarkable rock musician who, with the necessary humour, demolishes all possible boundaries between musical styles. None other than Frank Nuyts, nicknamed the Zappa of Flanders, composed an exciting tribute for his companion Luc Brewaeys, which will have its world premiere during this vibrant concert. Expect a unique mix of exuberance and finesse, combined with character pieces that are bursting with vitality!
