Marijn Simons: Symphonic poem Max Havelaar

Max Havelaar, Johan Cruyff and De Rosenkavalier. At first glance, these three well-known personalities have nothing in common. But in music, differences merge and anything is possible. Music is time art. It resounds in time and evokes past and future in us. The winged statement of Amsterdam football god in Barcelona, Johan Cruijff was: ‘en un momento dado’ which (too) loosely translated had to mean ‘at a given moment’.

That given moment is on Sunday 26 June, when Calefax and St. Michael Thorn Wind Orchestra merge sound worlds. Sounds in which old and new, historical and utopian worlds meet in a dazzling program with a leading role for symphonic, poetic and harmonic compositions and in which the virtuosity of both ensembles is fully expressed. Music as a given moment in which future memories are born. Harmonic sound art at its best with a world premiere of new Dutch music as the opening.
