Marion von Tilzer: 4 Bells for Freedom
On June 20, 2026, during the Day of Composer (Dag van de Componist), composer Marion von Tilzer presents “4 Bells for Freedom” at Theaterzaal P3 in Purmerend, a multidisciplinary project exploring the spirit of freedom. The event features the premiere of “Cantica Libertatis,” a new choral work created with community input from local street actions and discussions.
4 Bells for Freedom is an exploration of the spirit of freedom. This is realized through a participatory, multidisciplinary art project where everything comes together in a major new choral work for children’s and youth choir, a spoken word artist, and an ensemble: ‘Cantica Libertatis’ by composer Marion von Tilzer.
The title of this Amsterdam-initiated project refers to the four church bells of the Zuiderkerk, as well as to F.D. Roosevelt’s Four Freedoms speech in 1941. In the lead-up to the performance on Saturday, June 20, street actions and discussion meetings will take place to involve people from Purmerend and the surrounding area in the theme of freedom. Their input will guide the spoken word artist and form an integral part of the performance.
