Martijn Padding: HOP
This century sounds different every time, as the composers of our time prove: they constantly refresh your ears. This program by RKST21 is also diverse and adventurous, with the new piano concerto by Christiaan Richter as the highlight. It’s called muTaTum and none other than master pianist Severin von Eckardstein is the soloist. There is also work by, among others, cross-pollinator pur sang Ted Hearne, the crafty veteran Martijn Padding and up-and-coming makers such as Livia Malossi.
Since his school days, Christiaan Richter has been fascinated by Art Tatum, one of the greatest jazz pianists of all time, who was also deeply admired by classical icons such as Igor Stravinsky, Sergei Rachmaninov and George Gershwin. Tatum was known for inventiveness and his exceptionally fast thinking and finger work. Richter virtuously translates these qualities into his own idiom. RKST21 is the orchestra of the 21st century. Orchestra De Ereprijs is joining forces with various partners, this time with the National Youth Orchestra.
