Martijn Padding: World Premiere Celloconcert nr. 2 ‘Swift, grey and spacious’

The new Cello Concerto that Martijn Padding composed for Matt Haimovitz was to premiere in 2020, but like many beautiful projects had to be canceled at the last minute. Orchestra and soloist are looking forward to the postponed premiere! Jean-Guihen Queyras has long desired to perform Béla Bartók’s Viola Concerto on cello – an idea that even inspired the theme of the 2020 Biennale, The Cello Takes Over. Now his wish has come true. The two cello concertos are preceded by the Quartet for four cellos by the most important Polish composer of the twentieth century, Grażyna Bacewicz.
