Maxim Kolomiiets: Snowy Blood of the Stone
Music can start where words fail! In the third year of the war in Ukraine, Olga Zado is creating a moving program with two exceptional Ukrainian artists.
Valeriy Sokolov is one of the most sought-after violinists of his generation. He has won numerous international competitions and works with the most important orchestras and conductors.
Aleksey Shadrin won first prize in all major competitions in Ukraine and appeared as a soloist with the Opéra national de Montpellier and the NDR Radiophilharmonie. He studies at the Kronberg Academy under Franz Helmerson.
In this concert you can experience a world premiere! Namely the premiere of the work Snowy Blood of the Stone, which the Ukrainian composer Maxim Kolomiiets wrote especially for this program.
Antonín Dvořák’s Dumky, op. 90 for piano trio also has a Ukrainian connection. “Dumka” can best be translated as “thought” and goes back to a Slavic folk song tradition. In his 4th Piano Trio, Dvořák strings together a total of six Dumky. The “narrative” character of these individual movements with their very different moods makes this piece one of the most popular chamber music works.
His Piano Trio in B major, Op. 8 was the first chamber music work that Johannes Brahms released for publication. He revised it 35 years later. In doing so, he reduced the romantic exuberance of his younger self and focused on condensing the musical structure, but above all left the scherzo almost unchanged. The juxtaposition of the young and old Brahms in this “late early work” makes the piano trio a very special work.
