Maxim Shalygin ANGEL for violin and cello
Spacial Symphony
Classical, improvisation, electronics… in this concert, everything comes together. The focus is on composer Iannis Xenakis. He would have turned 100 this year, which of course should not go unnoticed. He is considered one of the pioneers of the 20th century and linked his work as an architect to his compositions. His work is sometimes seen as ‘space symphonics’, the movement of sound in space. You can hear exactly what that sounds like in this concert, in which violinist Merel Vercammen and cellist Maya Fridman play the work Dhipli Zyia. An innovative piece, played by two creative minds, who add their own improvisations. Also on the programme are Castillo Interior by Peteris Vasks and the beautiful Angel by Maxim Shalygin. Angel was written especially for Vercammen and Fridman. This concert will be as cross-genre as Xenakis’ music itself. ‘Never a dull moment’ is entirely applicable to this concert.
