Maxim Shalygin by Tomoko Mukaiyama in Kumano
Wonderful mix of music, film and performance
KUMANO is again a wonderful mix of music, film, performance and installation. This time Mukaiyama also collaborated with the Dutch film director Reinier van Brummelen. The performance is named after the medieval pilgrimage site where Mukaiyama was born in 1963. On the occasion of the opening of the new cultural center in Kumano, Tomoko and Reinier were invited to create new work, in which nature, the spiritual festivities and the old rituals were recorded. At the same time, it is a look back at Tomoko’s youth. The music you hear is by Schumann, Pärt and Mukaiyama themselves.
