Maxim Shalygin: Drop after drop
Who doesn’t long for light, comfort and a glimmer of hope in dark times like these? Projectkoor Gelderland celebrates its 25th anniversary with the uplifting anniversary concert Eindeloos Licht.
A must for anyone who loves music, also for people who normally pass up a classical concert.
Central to this program is Eternal Light: A Requiem by Howard Goodall. His choice to contrast a selection of poems from English literature with the old Latin texts works out wonderfully. Goodall wanted to write a Requiem that will help and comfort those left behind. It breathes light and deserves a large audience.
The Weidler Quartet opens the concert with Drop after Drop, written by the Ukrainian composer Maxim Shalygin for Festivals for Compassion.
You will also hear The Rose by Ola Gjeilo, parts of The Sacred Veil by Eric Whitacre and Requiem for Humanity by Helen Ostafew. The choir is conducted by Wolfgang Lange and is accompanied by various instrumentalists. You can also hear two young British soloists (both of whom make an effort to increase the accessibility of classical music. Eleanor Sourbutts (soprano) and Patricia Yates (tenor).
