Maxim Shalygin: drop after drop (version for string orchestra)
In this special performance by Johannes Leertouwer and Nieuwe Philharmonie Utrecht, newly written work by Maxim Shalygin is combined with music by Beethoven and Dvorak.
Shalygin wrote his ‘drop by drop’ for the Festival for Compassions in the form of a string quartet. Now we play a version for orchestra, made for the Wonderfeel Festival, with which Nieuwe Philharmonie Utrecht has been collaborating as a festival orchestra for 7 years and where the program of this concert is also played.
In the short work, Shalygin expresses his sadness about the war in his native Ukraine. The Festival for Compassions expressed the hope that it may contribute to connectedness and solidarity.
