Maxim Shalygin: Canto Inferno
Gentle, intimate and hopeful: Fauré’s Requiem is a reconciliation with the end. Emotional core is the glowing Libera me, a plea for liberation that is answered with a glimpse into paradise. A similar desire for freedom marks Brahms’ Third under the motto “Frei aber froh” – and in this symphony, too, the quest for redemption ends in a hushed finale of heavenly beauty.
The concert opens a world premiere for choir and orchestra by Maxim Shalygin.
