Poetry, lyricism and melody are the central idea in the concert for two pianos with Efi Papathomaidi and Yiannis Michailidis.
The program opens with two works by Francis Poulenc: the moving Elegy, dedicated to the memory of Marie-Blanche de Polignac, and the witty Waltz "Embarkation for Kythera", inspired by Antoine Watteau's famous painting.
This will be followed by four excerpts from Reynaldo Hahn's masterpiece “Le ruban dénoué”, a collection of 12 waltzes with wonderfully poetic titles.
The first part will end with Dmitri Shostakovich's scintillating and virtuosic Concertino.
The second part will begin with Nestor Taylor's magnificent atmospheric work “Scarlet Letters”: 3 Preludes for 2 Pianos, a work the two artists have recorded for Donemus Records.
The concert will conclude with Franz Liszt's magnificent Symphonic Poem "The Preludes", inspired by Lamartine's poem of the same name, transposed for two pianos by the composer.
