Rayeva: Am Meer & Retinsky: C-Dur
Olga Rayeva’s ‘Am Meer’ for button accordion and orchestra will have its world premiere at Ultraschall festival for new music, performed by Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin under Vladimir Jurowski and Roman Yusipey as soloist.
Olga Rayeva about her piece:
The theme of the sea is prominent in most of my compositions, and this is not a coincidence. My early childhood was spent in two cities, Moscow and Mariupol. While Moscow is an inland city with no sea, Mariupol, my mother’s hometown, is a seaport on the coast of. I have always cherished my fond memories of Mariupol and have longed to return there someday to stroll along the alleys of the southern city and visit the small theatre.
It’s heartbreaking to see that both the theater and the city are no longer there. Personally, it’s a tragedy for me. The events of the last year have left me shattered internally, and the only way I know how to deal with trauma is to write music. Vladimir Jurowski and I have collaborated on two projects, one orchestral and one with United Berlin ensemble. During that time, Roman Yusipey played the premiere of my piece titled “The light of the day of Holy Trinity” on the solo button accordion. Now, we are hoping to team up again for a new project.
