Oscar van Hemel: Shakespeare Sonnets

North Brabant has a rich choir life. One of the absolute gems is Ad Parnassum, conducted by conductor Anthony Zielhorst. A group of experienced ensemble singers who sing sacred and profane music at a high level. Unknown contemporary music is regularly performed. The choir surprises its audience with impressive music from forgotten music archives. Now Ad Parnassum is performing a choral recital with works by composers active in the Netherlands. Musicians who like to be inspired by literature, poetry and spiritual stories.

Poetry of Shakespeare as inspiration of the composers in that program. Shakespeare also inspired the Belgian-Dutch composer Oscar van Hemel (1892-1981). In his 1961 Shakespeare Sonnets we hear the sonnets Music to hear and No longer mourn passing.
