Pavel Karmanov: Past Perfect

Maria Nemtsova recently recorded a new album called “Past Perfect”. The album includes both classical/romantic repertoire and some of contemporary music. All the composers she chosed are exploring this sweet longing for the untouchable feelings of the past. Sometimes they do it in a quite therapeutic way, sometimes fighting against it.
Music of Nikolai Medtner (Sonata-Reminiscenza op.38 No.1), who never accepted Soviet Russia and who considered Ludwig van Beethoven (“Tempest Sonata” in d minor op. 31 No.2) as his main spiritual teacher; “Ricercare Egaré”, a piece by Polina Nazaykinskaya, Russian emigrant, who is living in the US now, and a minimal piece “Past Perfect” by Pavel Karmanov have a lot in common: invisible threads, allusions, familiar fragrances, states of mind that penetrate into the atmosphere of this album. It is a very personal album that seeks to offer some hope in the end.

She is very grateful to Wilhemina Janssen Fonds, Het Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds, Amsterdam Fonds voor de Kunst, Voordekunst platform and more than fifty donors who made all this possible.
Please come and share with me this special evening.

Robert Heppener: Nachtklange / Canto carnascialeschi / Spinsel

A Singer’s Farewell Semi-staged performance with beautiful music from the Romantic period. There was a time when increasing age meant wisdom and respect. That is no longer self-evident. Singing at the highest level has a limited duration. At some point, singers say goodbye to the family from which they seemed inseparable.
