Randal Corsen: suite Karibu di Shon / Plegaria
Celebrating the 5th edition of [LAS] 100 PROTAGONISTAS, a symphonic gala will take place this Saturday, March 7, 2026, in Caracas. This free public event honors 100 women driving gender equality in Venezuela, featuring the Orquesta Sinfónica Ayacucho under the baton of Elisa Vegas.
The evening shines a spotlight on the versatile brilliance of Curaçaoan pianist and Donemus composer Randal Corsen. A centerpiece of the program is the continental premiere of his suite from Katibu di Shon—the first-ever opera in Papiamentu—performed alongside renowned mezzosoprano Tania Kross.
As a prominent voice in the Donemus catalog, Corsen’s work seamlessly bridges Caribbean heritage and contemporary classical music. The program features several of his original compositions, including Winy Danzón and For Eddie, as well as his masterful arrangements of waltzes by the legendary Oswin “Chin” Behilia.
