Rokus de Groot: 5 inventies / Psalm
The program you hear tells the story of how composers deal with fellow composers they admire. Composers were and are well informed about what has emerged musically in history. For example, composer Rokus de Groot, a musicologist at the UvA, studied Bach his entire life. Many of his works are inspired by the work of the grand master Bach. Robert Schumann did the same, but believed that the famous Chaconne, already perfection at its peak, could still use a piano part. Although this practice was common in the 19th century, Rokus de Groot was inspired but nevertheless made his own sound idiom. Zoltán Kodà ly also connected with Bach in the three chorales, which are further developed with a full piano part. Both the Armenian songs of Komitas and the Romances of Schumann tell an intimate story. It is the story of the connection with the country of origin, history and love, which is so beautifully expressed in the cello, the equivalent of the human voice.
