Rudolf Escher: Arcana

At the very first Orlando Festival concert, the two central composers, Rudolf Escher and Ludwig Beethoven, are honored with two representative works that they composed in their 33rd year of life. Eleven and nine works by Beethoven and Escher can be heard at Orlando respectively, these composers are featured almost daily. Beethoven’s anniversary year 2020 (because of his 250th year of birth) fell completely into the water due to Covid-19. Orlando is catching up in two editions. Rudolf Escher is regarded by connoisseurs as one of the most important Dutch composers of his generation. But how often can we listen to his works in the concert hall? Last year Orlando programmed seven compositions by Escher. Visitors and musicians unanimously judged: what beautiful and special music!
