Saskia Venegas: The Rainbow Serpent
The Ensemble Oihua, based in Rotterdam, has been actively involved since the first edition of the Day of the Composer. During Composer’s Day in 2023, they brought together the music of 12 composers living in the Netherlands in a four-part Music Route, culminating in a joint closing concert with the Doelen Ensemble. Due to the success of this route, they are organizing a second edition this year.
The Rotterdam Music Route 2024 will take place at three locations: a lunch concert at Hofje Vrouwe Groeneveld, an afternoon concert at the Hillevliet art center and an evening concert at the Batavierhuis breeding ground. During this route, the ensemble will showcase the variety of contemporary music made in the Netherlands, with special attention to music by Rotterdam and Rotterdam-based composers such as Hans Koolmees, Friso Van Wijck, Saskia Venegas and Panos Gklistis.
An offer has been created for 2024 that appeals to a wide range of age groups. For the elderly there is a lunch concert with quiet, embracing music in the garden of the Vrouwe Groeneveld hofje. A program composed by young people has been put together especially for young people, which can be experienced in the Hillevliet art center in collaboration with SKVR. To conclude, there will be a colorful and eclectic concert for everyone, including two world premieres, held at the Batavierhuis breeding ground.
The following pieces will be played at this last stop of the Music Route:
