Savvas Karantzias: Katharsis

From November 22 to 24, the Rhodes-Reval cultural events will take place in Tallinn, offering an opportunity to experience Greek music and culture, centered around the island of Rhodes with its rich cultural heritage and powerful nature.

As the main event, the work “Katharsis” by Greek composer Savvas Karantzias, who resides on Rhodes, will be presented to the Estonian audience for the first time. With his work “Katharsis” (the Greek word ‘’κάθαρσις’’ means “purification”) the composer refers to the experience of release and relief of strong emotions that previously were repressed and that this extreme emotional state can result in the renewal and restoration of mind and body.

Savvas Karantzias has written numerous works for orchestra, choir, chamber music. His works have been performed in different countries, including Greece, France, the USA, Australia etc.

Before the concert, on the same day, November 23, at 5pm, there will be a free of charge photo tour  at Kloostri Ait. Their series of the French photographers Peggy Herbeau and Christophe Fillieule refer to the historic influences and melting points of Rhodes, which is at crossroads between Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. This has given the island many different identities, cultures, architectures, and languages over its long history. The exhibition will be open at Kloostri Ait from November 11 to 24, 2024.

Rhodos-Reval is a multidisciplinary event that celebrates the strong cultural and artistic links between France, Greece, and Estonia. Its aim is to promote exchanges between cultures, audiences, and disciplines. The events are produced in collaboration between the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir and the founders of the Festival European Polyphony, Arts Spontanés association, based in Paris, and the Greek association Ars Artis, based in Rhodes.

A Singer’s Farewell Semi-staged performance with beautiful music from the Romantic period. There was a time when increasing age meant wisdom and respect. That is no longer self-evident. Singing at the highest level has a limited duration. At some point, singers say goodbye to the family from which they seemed inseparable.

Jan-Peter de Graaff: Hagar, an opera in 4 scenes

On Thursday, May 15th, the Nederlandse Reisopera presented its upcoming season with a brand new opera.  A bold and creative partnership between composer Jan-Peter de Graaff and librettist Eleanor Barlow, Hagar is a daring, modern and fiercely human reimagining of the ancient tale that explores resilience, scandal, and consequence.
