Savvas Karantzias: Polyphonia

Frank Martin – Mass for Double Choir a cappella (1922–1926)
One of the most profound choral works of the 20th century, this Mass remained for many years a closely guarded secret of its composer, who considered it too personal to present to the public. Written for two mixed choirs, it combines refined polyphonic writing with deep inner spirituality, striking a remarkable balance between intensity, austerity, and artistic perfection.

Sergei Rachmaninoff – Liturgy of St John Chrysostom (1910)
Rachmaninoff’s Liturgy of St John Chrysostom stands as a cornerstone of the Russian Orthodox choral tradition. Written entirely a cappella, it blends rich melodic lines and warm harmonies with a distinctive spiritual depth, uniting reverence for liturgical tradition with a modern expressive voice in music that is both majestic and profoundly human.

Hades, The Odyssey – New Work by Savvas Karantzias (2026)
Hades, a new work by Savvas Karantzia, situates itself within the lineage of great sacred choral compositions through a distinctly contemporary perspective. Inspired by Odysseus’ journey into the Underworld, it captivates with its power, clarity, and intensity, offering an immersive sonic experience where myth, tradition, and modernity converge.
