Canto Ostinato at the Scheepvaartmuseum
Hundreds of stars above you that move with the music. A special experience with an unimaginable atmosphere that you can experience nowhere else in the world as in the Scheepvaartmuseum Amsterdam. A unique fairytale experience on the Open Square of ‘s Lands Zeemagazijn, a monumental building from 1656, designed by Daniel Stalpaert as a warehouse of the Admiralty of Amsterdam.
The literal highlight is the roof of the courtyard. The self-supporting construction, designed by architect Laurent Ney, consists of thousands of pieces of glass in a metal frame containing more than 800 LED lights that can be controlled individually. The design is inspired by the compass lines of old nautical charts, such as Joan Blaeu’s world map from 1648, one of the museum’s masterpieces.
Thanks to this impressive glass roof, the courtyard has a very beautiful function as a central square and is the place for the now famous reclining concerts®.
Complete your evening with a specially composed three-course dinner including drinks and enjoy this evening even longer. You also have the opportunity to visit part of the museum after the concert. Make your own museum night. Pianists Sandra and/or Jeroen van Veen will take you on this evening with the now classic Canto Ostinato (19:30) and Einaudi•Yiruma•Tiersen (22:00). Lying down and listening to the most beautiful works composed by Ludovico Einaudi, including Fly & Una Mattina (Intouchables), Berlin Song (Comes A Bright Day) and Nuvole Bianche (from Insidious). Expanded with other greats such as Philip Glass (The Hours), Hans Zimmer (Interstellar) and John Lunn (Downtown Abbey) and of course Yann Tiersen and Yiruma. While the roof moves with the music, you let your imagination run wild and make your own film that you will never forget…
