Simeon ten Holt: Canto Ostinato

Simeon ten Holt composed with the Canto Ostinato, literally translated ‘stubborn song’, a piece of music in which time and space become separate from each other and where it is about experiencing locally. As with improvisation, the musical choices are made at the time of the performance. The Matangis race through the piece and are in constant communication with each other. At Canto Ostinato there is therefore no leadership. The piece leads itself. Tension and relaxation create a desire that gives way to deep emotion.
