Simeon ten Holt: Canto Ostinato (Alexej Gerassimez)
Innovative version of Simeon ten Holt’s Canto Ostinato for percussion and piano
A concert that will make the hearts of the many Canto Ostinato fans beat faster. German percussionist and composer Alexej Gerassimez shines new light on the famous notes of Dutch composer Simeon ten Holt, together with three fellow percussionists and his brother, pianist Nicolai Gerassimez. Moreover, he has the courage to alternate this classic with his own Suite of Elements, a work that continues where Canto Ostinato leaves off.
Alexej Gerassimez is one of the most important percussionists of our time. In 2010 he won the prestigious Tromp Percussion Competition. Since then, Gerassimez has surprised with new work and remarkable interpretations of existing pieces. In May 2022, together with the brothers Arthur and Lucas Jussen, he impressively performed Bartók and Bernstein in the Muziekgebouw. “It was swinging with Alexej Gerassimez,” wrote Trouw. ‘Music on the cutting edge.’
