Simeon ten Holt: Canto Ostinato (Doornink and Elbertse)
A special concert in a special ambiance. On Sunday 28 August, the famous concert Canto Ostinato by Simeon ten Holt will be performed in the garden by Esther Doornink and Peter Elbertse.
The Dutch composer Simeon ten Holt worked on his Canto Ostinato in the 1970s. The premiere was on April 25, 1979 in Bergen (NH) by three pianos and organ. Canto is considered to be minimalist music and is one of the most famous works of contemporary Dutch classical music. From the beginning, the composition reached a wide audience. Esther Doornink and Peter Elbertse play the Canto Ostinato on two marimbas. The marimba can be considered the alto or bass version of a xylophone and has a warm and full sound. You can dream away to the meditative sounds of the Canto Ostinato or discover new patterns in the repeating motifs.
